Overview will be the first spin-out of Ascend Innovation’s startup studio. The Product Manager of plays a key role in leading the product's launch, spinout, and growth. The Product Manager will be an employee of Ascend Innovations and will benefit from the stability and services available from the larger parent company. While Ascend is based in Dayton, the team is already working in a hybrid fashion and this role is open to remote talent. is a new platform developed for middle and high school students that helps to reduce the barrier of access to mental health resources. Rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide have almost doubled in the last ten years, and our schools are in a crisis mode responding to their students’ needs. The app fights the barriers created by stigma through shared stories about mental health, and trusted staff at a school curates the content. also closes the gap between students and professional community resources through a hyper-local directory with vetted professional services.

Job Summary

The Product Manager is responsible for leading the product strategy of the burgeoning mental health start-up. This includes managing the product vision, identifying customer problems, defining Jobs to be Done, facilitating prototyping, driving market research, and collaborating with the development and design teams.

This role is key to executing the product vision and a central hub for collaboration among the team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Help formulate’s long-term product vision, goals, metrics, and strategy.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director on overall product strategy and vision.
  • Translate product strategy into concrete plans and objectives over the short- and medium-term.
  • Drive the product roadmap for the software and community products based on customer needs, resources, and strategic opportunities.
  • Lead market assessment to identify new product opportunities and represent the voice of the market by conducting industry research, including deep quantitative, qualitative, and competitive analysis. Lead the UX team in the use of prototypes for gathering product and strategy feedback.
  • Partner cross-functionally to write product requirements and drive execution and prioritization.
  • Collaborate with functional leads to execute product development.


  • Experience building software as a product manager is required, preferably at a high-growth startup.
  • Excellent management skills and principles; experience guiding teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and with customers or partners.
  • Experience with agile project management and leading teams through a regular cadence of agile rituals.
  • Experience in the mental and behavioral health field is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, problem-solve, and manage stakeholder issues.
  • Comfortable setting data-driven standards and holding teams accountable for metrics, decisions, and deliverables.
